The Italian House is located on the 1st floor of Pleasants Hall (Randolph Complex, 500 Ukrop Way). This is the place where all those interested in Italian language and culture can share a true experience. Our several activities will give students and residents an idea of the Italian culture, which is, by definition, one of the richest and most charming in the world. Also, these activities are a priceless opportunity to practice your Italian language skills! Our Casa Italiana Bulletin Board is located on the 3rd floor of Washington Hall: this is where you can keep yourself up-to-date with our activities and where you can actually sign up for activities!

Attivita’ della Casa italiana FALL 2012 – general overview

Lunedi’, ore 17.00, Conversazione per Beginners

Mercoledi’, ore 18.30, Cooking Session

Mercoledi’, ore 20.00, Movie Night

Giovedi’, ore 17.00, Conversazione per Intermediate/Advanced

Giovedi’, ore 18.00, Individual Tutoring

Conversation Hours for Beginners and Intermediate/Advanced

Our Conversation Hours, which take place at the Italian House (or, in case of nice weather, somewhere outside on campus) is a great opportunity to practice your language skills. Activities for beginners include games, videos, songs, basic dialogues. With Intermediate and Advanced speakers we usually just follow the flow of natural conversation: we just decide the topic, and then exchange our opinions in the most relaxed and informal way. In front of some PANE&NUTELLA, of course! Topics may include: food, vacation, experiences abroad, art, etc…

Cooking session

Come and cook with your fellow students and the tutor! You will learn tricks to cook all’italiana (the Italian way), in a funny, informal atmosphere. You will help out, but then you will be rewarded: you will taste what you have prepared, and we will all have dinner together. I mean, we have the best food in the world, right?

Movie night

Italian cinema is rich in genres: from Neo-Realism, to mafia movies, from romantic movies to comedies. Those who come and watch the movies are never disappointed… Because it is not important to understand everything. What is fundamental is to jump into the atmosphere of another country, to train your ears to Italian language, to get to know actors, characters, situations typical of Italian cinema…and, of course, you will be dreaming of a country that you are maybe going to visit very soon.

Special events

Special events are often held during the semester. These include Friday night APERITIVO, a special night which usually takes place once a month, when every resident cooks a dish and we then eat all together; OPERA NIGHT, which we try to organize at least once a semester; TOURNAMENTS and COMPETITIONS with the other Language Houses.
